The mark of a great book writing class is one that will help you to write a great book but not make the joins conspicuous to your readers. You shouldn't be surprised to learn that not all classes are going to be exactly the same as each other.

The very first thing that you should be aware of is that not all classes are the same. Books come in varieties and it is important that you know the sort of book you want to produce before you decide on a class to go to. There is no point at all in going to a class about writing fiction if you want to learn how to write autobiographies. Some aspects will be the same, research, for example, but you cannot apply the same process of writing to these two types of books.

Fiction books are by far the most popular types of book that most people want to learn to write. While you don't have to have formal training to think of a made up location and characters, there are certain methods and techniques that you can learn that will make the process of writing the book go quicker and more smoothly

Most writers tend to want to develop a plot first. Generally, they come up with an outline of what exactly is going to take place, how it is going to take place, the location that it is going to take place, and when it is going to take place. After the initial plot is thought out, sub plots will have to be fleshed out. Being able to structure a strong plot and sub plots is absolutely critical to writing an excellent fiction book.

Another integral part of the book is determining where the story is going to take place. If an author does choose to use a real place than the plot and sub plot may have to be adjusted to ensure continuity. When a real location is used the writer has the advantage of going there and making sure they get all the information accurate. A real location that is carefully scouted by the author can prevent minor continuity errors; for example, if there is a steep cliff at a certain location the author won't mention it as a ditch in another scene.

Once an author chooses a real location and if they are familiar with the location they will be able to easily create characters loosely based on the people they know or observe while they are there. A very important part of writing a fiction book is making sure you have proper character development.

As well as teaching you how to build your plot, find your location and create your characters, a good book writing class will show you how to build the story on the plot, within the location and using your characters. At the same time it will teach you how to get your readers involved with the characters - maybe even identify with them. It will teach you how to build suspense and how to introduce unexpected twists to keep your story moving forward.

Keeping your readers guessing by putting powerful plot twists and keeping the story moving is also something you should be taught.
